Shvona Lavette - the Queens, New York native excelled in the arts at an early age. The actress/sing-songwriter was classically trained at Manhattan's American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, New York. Despite a rapidly ascending profile in front of the camera as a skilled actress, Shvona remained intent on making her musical dreams a reality. In 2011, she joined the roster with Snoop and Far East Movement at Stampede Management.
When and how did you realise you wanted to become a singer?
As a little girl from Far Rockaway, Queens, New York I knew I wanted to be a performer--period. I took acting classes and wrote my own music on my Casio piano I received from my grandmother one Christmas.
Who are your influences in music?
Some of my favorite music influences are Patti Labelle, Tina Marie, Madonna, Prince and Fiona Apple.

What are your favourite tracks?
Right now, I adore Frank Ocean (as we all do). I'm also listening to Field Music mainly the track "Let's Write a Book" and I'm listening to a lot of world music these days.
What does music mean to you?
Music is my freedom. Throughout my childhood and teenage years there were specific songs that spark cherished memories. That is the power of music.
Where do you find inspiration when writing songs?
When I'm writing music I am inspired by either my own story or someone else's story that has touched me enough to inspire my lyrics. Travel, weather, and pure emotion keep me inspired as well.

Gossamer is my latest work. Its sultry sound and heavy bass is inspired by that English sound and you can download it on my site ShvonaLavetteMusic.com. I had the pleasure of working with DJ Plastician in the UK at Wendy House Studios. He played me a few tracks and what came to be my single "Brand New" stuck out to me the most. I loved his chill vibe, his approach to music and the collaboration as a whole.
What tips and advice do you have for young people in the scene?
As a youth, you should always stay true to what inspires you even if you have to sacrifice and do what ever it takes to fulfill your dream-- whatever that may be. Too many people give up and let life consume them and you never want to think "what if."

What have you got planned for the future?
Right now I am working on my next project. It's in the very barest of stages and I am ready to create yet again and looking forward to the outcome. I'm painting an art series and still working on television and film projects in Hollywood which keeps me on my toes artistically. Look out for the "Brand New" Remix official video on my Vevo page and soon to come the official video for "Let Go".
