Easing in with a chilled tempo and beautiful husky vocals. The beat drops revealing an uplifting atmosphere and sweet lyrics. There is a lovely contrast between the interesting percussion and light piano sounds.
‘Simple Things was inspired by a conversation with a homeless man whose day was brightened by the occasional smile of strangers and by my brother who, as a soldier, derived happiness from the knowledge that the nation was proud of him. In the face of adversity, it’s seemingly simple things that make the difference.’ Mau
Since his Afrobeats debut ‘Miss Beautiful’ was released earlier this year, singer-songwriter-producer Mau has been touring across the UK, gaining support from regional press & radio and gaining a loyal fanbase. He has been praised by trendsetting bloggers both in the UK and in Africa and has even performed acoustically on London Live TV. Mau’s new single ‘Simple Things’ reveals another side to the multitalented artist. The track features warm vocal harmonies on a drum & bass beat, but still has a nod towards Mau’s Afrobeats background.
Mau has built a strong musical foundation in the UK, performing at a Black History event for Nelson Mandela, working with Claire Fuller (American Pop Idol), Hez Thuo (Big Brovaz) and gaining support from a number of patrons at the Academy of Contemporary Music.
Having pledged to use his “voice as a tool for change” Mau hopes he can use his light-hearted song-writing to one day enable him to make good on his promise. As an articulate social-activist, Mau works closely with charities to campaign against challenging subjects such domestic violence and child abuse. He has spoken in schools nationwide and even on London Live TV about the subjects he feels strongly about.
Think positive. Be happy. x
